This work examines the narrative apparatus in three modernist European city novels - Bely's ""Petersburg"", Joyce's ""Dublin"" and Doblin's ""Berlin"". It argues that the narrative combination of rambling, thinking and talking creates a ""peripatetic"" perspective, a manner of facing oneself to the world.
