Ennius and the Architecture of the Annales

This book explores the interpretative consequences of the ancient and modern treatment of Ennius' fragmentary but hugely influential epic, the Annales. It argues that its manifest impact on the collective Roman psyche results from its innovative promotion of a vision of Rome as the primary focus of the cosmos in all its aspects.
