New Guinea

New Guinea, a large tropical island, is a land of contrasts, ranging from glaciers on its highest peaks to mangrove swamps in its lowlands. This work covers the Melanesian region and argues that interlocking exchange systems are the ""invisible government"" through which New Guinea societies operate.
