Machiavelli, Hobbes, and the Formation of a Liberal Republicanism in England

This book argues that some English writers of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries were not adherents to classical republicanism and hostile to liberalism, but contributed to a synthesis of the two. The synthesis they provide offers a politically engaged citizenry as well as the protection of individual rights.
